If you are hosting a party, chocolate fondue is a must.  It is always a hit because the dippers can come in such a fun variety of food types to fit every taste.  Plus, so few people can resist chocolate.  Your greatest dilemma may just be that the guests won’t want to eat the other foods.

Chocolate goes with cakes, cookies, candies, biscuits, and nuts.  It comes in dark, semi-sweet, milk, and white.  Do you have enough fondue pots to create the enormous varieties of chocolate fondues that are available.  You could spend a whole year experimenting with the possibilities.

This recipe can also be changed up a bit with the addition of peanut butter.  So, you will be adding some wonderful protein.  Peanut butter also offers a good cholesterol that is helpful in decreasing your bad cholesterol.   Or, you could consider adding a dash of peppermint extract to the chocolate fondue, especially if it is the holidays.

Here is the recipe:

Chocolate Fondue

8 oz. semisweet chocolate, chopped coarsely

1 14-oz. can of sweetened condensed milk (1 1/4 cups)

1/3 c. milk

Melt chocolate over low heat in a medium-sized heavy sauce pan.  Stir in the milk and sweetened condensed milk.  Heat for a few minutes, but do not allow to boil.  Transfer the mixture to your chocolate fondue pot and continue to warm.  Serve with pound cake cutbes, angel food cubes, brownie squares, strawberries, marshmallows, banana slices, dried apricots or fresh pineapple chunks.

If your chocolate thickens, thin it with a bit more milk.

For the Chocolate-Peanut Butter Fondue, prepare as directed above, but add in 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter when you add the milk.  Here is what that recipe will look like:

Chocolate Fondue

8 oz. semisweet chocolate, chopped coarsely

1 14-oz. can of sweetened condensed milk (1 1/4 cups)

1/2 c. creamy peanut butter

1/3 c. milk

Melt chocolate over low heat in a medium-sized heavy sauce pan.  Stir in the peanut butter, milk and sweetened condensed milk.
